The Treasure Valley area features so much beautiful diversity. From the remote desert of the Owyhee Mountains to the farms and vineyards that are so close to the metropolitan areas, there is no place in Idaho like it. National rankings show that millennials and retirees alike find that Treasure Valley is the place to live! There are plenty of job opportunities, reasonable housing prices, and more, in what’s also known as the Boise Metro Area. It currently ranks as one of the fastest growing areas in the nation.

What Makes up the Treasure Valley Area?

Back in the day it used to cover a huge area -- from Boise, Idaho all the way to Vale, Oregon. It was known most commonly as the Lower Snake River Valley due to the five tributaries that emptied into the Snake River. Then in 1959 the valley’s chamber of commerce decided to do a bit of a rebrand and change the name to “Treasure Valley” as a way to describe the vast opportunities available in the area, in order to attract new residents.

Nowadays, the name still matches all the growth and newness that continues to be abundant all over the area. However, Treasure Valley now only refers to the areas that encompass Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Eagle, Star, Kuna, Caldwell, and Middleton. About 40% of Idaho’s population lives in Treasure Valley, with an estimated growth of 712,200 residents by 2040, making the population over one million people.

Living in Boise

Idaho’s largest city (and third largest in the PNW) is none other than Boise. It is Treasure Valley’s cultural hub and features art museums, touring broadway shows, and a mix of local restaurants and craft breweries. While the cost of living is a bit higher in Boise than other areas in the Treasure Valley area, you do get to be closer to all of the incredible entertainment options. Full of historic neighborhoods, the North and East End’s are known for their incredibly restored Craftsman and Victorian homes. In Southeast Boise you’ll find many of the Boise State University students and young professionals who have just a short commute to the downtown area.
